If you have been following this website you know that our mission is to promote art that serves as a catalyst for positive change for individuals and our environment. In this article you will find a variety of artistic expressions from artists inspired by the natural world. The artists came to my attention through a call for artists for the Manhattan Arts International “HerStory” 2022 juried competition. Although their art wasn’t chosen for that exhibition I was impressed by their creative talent and felt they deserved your attention. For this page I chose one of their nature-inspired entries and the statement that accompanied their submission.
At the end of this article you will find ideas on how we can protect our environment. You will also find links below to more nature-related articles and exhibitions presented on The Healing Power of ART & ARTISTS website.
Susan Hoffman
Susan is dedicated to preserving the natural beauty of Louisiana and has received accolades for her art. When Susan submitted her art to us she wrote, “My aim as an artist is to preserve the fragile – Louisiana’a cypress swamps, Cajun customs, and wooden structures such as those in the Garden District of New Orleans and Louisiana plantations. Others will then have the opportunity to treasure them. I have chosen to preserve them by an archival method – etching them permanently into copper plates and oil-based inks and cotton paper to print them. Using these methods, affords me self-therapy and preserves fragile things.” Susan has been in exhibitions at the National Arts Club and the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club both based in New York, NY.
Tara Chadwick
Tara brings a sense of poetry with nature to her art and is an environmental activist. She shared this statement with us, “As we attempt to balance past, present and future, an inner voice coaxes us to glide with the rhythms of the universe; to practice kindness to ourselves and each other. Emergence from a chrysalis of unfathomable transformation models a path to an ideal not yet imagined, where infinity exists in cycles powered by love. We are all children of the matriarch. Journeying together on the winds of time to remember and repair; preparing a path to wellbeing and justice.” Tara has participated in global day of action against climate change. Her works streamed live over 24 hours, and will be included in an online exhibition on the Micro Galleries website.
Sal Sidner
Sal describes herself as a dedicated ecofeminist. She creates nature-inspired paintings and fosters awareness about environmental issues. She provided this statement: “I am an ecofeminist artist based in south Florida where I draw in nature and gardens. I am disgusted by the destructive actions of humans and our trash which ruins the paradise in which we exist as short term guests. My background: Educated by life, advanced degrees, contact with contemporary art, and teaching multiple workshops, I learn best from daily contact with the natural world.”
Anna Chan
Anna finds inspiration in sand and seashells and applies her background in jewelry design to create her artwork. She wrote this statement for us: “Displaced as a jewelry designer during the pandemic, idle hands and pent up creativity sparked my passion for sand sculpting. With considerable experimentation, it has evolved into permanent bas relief sculptures championing wildlife and nature. If sand is my canvas, then seashells collected from the shorelines I frequent are my inspiration, gemstones and brush strokes. Together they fit seamlessly into a puzzle forming a mosaic of life which serves to remind us we are cohabitants of this planet.
Candace Wilson
Candace combines her desire to heal lives and also environments through her art. She submitted this statement: “Artist, mystic, healer, my intent is to raise the vibration of consciousness through art. My clairsentient abilities help me transmute, then channel, the energetics of emotion into my colour field healing paintings. To oil paint I add crystals, found organic substances like sand and feathers for their ability to retain transmuted energy, conscious use of colour and other quantum energetic healing modalities. The resulting powerful frequencies of my sentient art help to heal lives, environments and the biofield of viewers.”
Sheryl Sabol
Sheryl expresses her discoveries of the surprising and magical elements in nature. She submitted this inspirational statement: “I enjoy capturing the beauty our world has to offer in a natural spontaneous way so I can discover and be amazed about the unknown magic that transpires. My technique is getting the shot right to begin with. I do not crop or edit my photographs. I do add words as an option to express how the photograph speaks to me. I love capturing how dynamic water is and I love shooting using a square size photograph, it’s so me. I like beauty and interesting things (large and small). ”
Ann Sylvester
Ann creates ethereal pastel paintings that provide visual relationships between architecture and nature. When she submitted her entries she supplied this statement: “As I search for home, my work explores architecture, the colors of our cities and landscapes, and the variant hues of our interiors.”
Allaire Doussan
Allaire has a love for the outdoors and creating art has provided healing for her. She submitted this statement: “By day I am an engineer pursuing my PhD at Dartmouth College. By night I am an artist, adventurer, musician, and survivor. My art is inspired by my love for the outdoors and offers an insider’s perspective of my battle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Art has been very grounding for me during stressful times and has allowed me to learn more about myself. Additionally, some of my pieces are combined with short writings that hold deep meaning for me.”
Cheryl Galloway
Cheryl creates vibrant art that often combines images of females and nature along with text. She shared this statement with us: “My colorful and dynamic drawings consist of my visions of female empowerment, nature and just whatever may come to my mind at any given moment. I have even had artwork on loan for a year to the Mercedes-Benz Research Center based in Redford, MI. I am fairly new to the Art of Business, but my startup is well on its way to becoming known for its unique, visual appeal. I simply want to create. I want to create what I see, feel and think and be able to share those truths and my imagination with YOU!
